Substitute a sunny day for dreary overcast photos
|
This 33 page tutorial utilizes Frank Hoppen's collection of motor sports photos to learn how to do some tricky sky replacements. Frank often has to shoot on less than ideal weather days. How do you turn a gray overcast day into a sunny, blue sky day? Or how about that bland white sky? The images below are really tricky but, in the end fairly easy to do IF you know the tricks there where no complex masks used to composite the skys into the images. I go over the construction of each of these images in detail. Along the way we learn something about:
Color Correcting in LAB Making Masks from RGB channels Advanced Blending Options Layer Apply Modes

Try to think how you might apply these ideas to your own work with outdoor locations. All images were captured by Frank Hoppen ©2002 with a Canon D30 in raw format, processed to 16 bit Tiff fi les.
